Monthly checks (red flags) and milestones
The eight monthly checks, their triggers, the three calm statuses, the three options offered, and the milestones list.

Checks run on the first of each month, and on demand from Progress › Milestones. They are parents-only and never shown to Day-to-day adults. The wording is deliberately non-diagnostic.
The eight checks#
| Check | Kind | Trigger |
|---|---|---|
| Low word count at 2 | Developmental | Under 50 approved words at 24 months, all languages combined |
| No two-word combinations by 2.5 | Developmental | No combinations at 30 months |
| No pretend play by 3 | Developmental | At 36 months |
| Sleep under 10 hours regularly | Developmental | More than half of recent nights under 10 hours |
| Low language exposure | Balance | One planned language under 15 percent for 8 straight weeks |
| Vocabulary stall | Developmental | No new approved words in any language for 6 straight weeks |
| No eye contact or joint attention | Developmental | Marked by a parent |
| Extreme separation distress | Developmental | Marked by a parent, after 3 months of graded practice |
Statuses#
fine, noticing, talk to someone. Only the two parent-marked checks can reach "talk to someone"; automatic checks top out at "noticing". The first four always show a result, including "fine".
Example wording#
- "It's worth a chat with a paediatrician or speech therapist about her word count and combinations — this is a routine check, not a diagnosis."
- "One of her languages has been under 15% of her week for two months running. Might be worth a small rebalance — no rush."
- "No new words logged in a while. Could just be a quiet patch — worth a light check-in."
Options on a non-fine card#
- Adjust plan: opens Plan › Week.
- Export evidence: queues a one-page PDF of the check with its evidence, for a paediatrician.
- Dismiss with note: "Tell your future self why", for example "heard daily, just not logged yet."
Milestones observed#
A manual list. + Add milestone: what she did, a domain, the observed date, and linked entries as evidence.
